NO SAve Act

To: Sen. Husted, Sen. Moreno

From: A constituent in Massillon, OH

March 15

I urge you to vote down the SAVE act. In it’s essence it will create a poll tax for women. The SAVE Act doesn’t just ask for a photo ID—it mandates Documentary Proof of Citizenship (DPOC). You’d need a U.S. Passport or a Certified Birth Certificate. 21.3 million eligible U.S. citizens do not have "ready access" to these documents. 3.8 million citizens have no citizenship documents at all (lost, stolen, or destroyed). Getting the documents required by the SAVE Act isn't free. • The Cost: A passport costs $130–$160. Certified birth certificates often cost $20–$50 plus travel and time off work. • The Data: Only 1 in 5 Americans with an income below $50,000 have a valid passport. In states like West Virginia and Mississippi, less than 1/3 of citizens even own one. Vote this one down please. No on the SAVE ACT.
