Protect college accessibility, competitiveness with robust student aid funding

The proposed cuts to federal financial aid programs like the Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), and Federal Work-Study (FWS) will severely limit access to higher education for low-income students. This threatens to undermine our economic competitiveness and workforce development goals. Making college less affordable means fewer Americans will be able to obtain the skills and credentials needed for well-paying jobs in today's economy. We urge policymakers to maintain robust funding for these essential programs that provide pathways to social mobility through higher education attainment. Reducing access to college does not align with state goals to increase the share of residents with postsecondary credentials or our national economic interests in developing a talented workforce. Protecting and expanding funding for federal student aid should be a priority.
