Immediate Action Required: ICE Detainees in Alvarado Treated Inhumanely

To: Sen. Parker, Gov. Abbott, Rep. Hayes, Lt. Gov. Patrick

From: A constituent in Argyle, TX

January 26

I’m writing as a constituent demanding immediate action to protect people detained at the Prairieland ICE Detention Center in Alvarado during this week’s freezing temperatures. Multiple Texas ICE facilities have been documented leaving detainees in dangerously cold conditions, with reports of officers refusing heat, removing blankets, and even turning on fans to make units colder. Advocates have also reported sanitation failures, medical neglect, and retaliation against people who ask for basic necessities. These conditions violate human rights and put lives at risk. I’m asking you to: 1. Require Prairieland to turn on heat and maintain safe indoor temperatures; 2. Launch an independent investigation into cold‑exposure, retaliation, and sanitation failures in Texas ICE facilities; 3. Mandate transparent temperature monitoring and public reporting; 4. Hold ICE leadership and private contractors accountable for endangering people in custody. People, US Citizens or immigrants regardless of legal status, in federal custody should not be subjected to freezing temperatures, retaliation, or degrading treatment. Please act now. Ignoring this mistreatment is a crime against humanity.
