Restore Nat’l Suicide & Crisis Lifeline services for LGBTQ youth

To: Rep. Hamadeh, Sen. Kelly, Sen. Gallego

From: A verified voter in Phoenix, AZ

June 19, 2025

The White House has ordered the National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline to stop providing services for LGBTQ+ youth on July 17, 2025, demonstrating the lengths that this Administration will go to in order to jeopardize the safety of queer youth. The National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline has provided services through calls, texts, and chats to 1.3 million LGBTQ+ youth since its launch, providing a crucial support to young people at risk of self harm and suicidal behavior. Withdrawing lifesaving services based on sexual orientation and gender identity is reprehensible and a violation of basic human rights and it will cause unnecessary deaths. Suicide prevention is not—-and must not—-be politicized. Use congressional oversight and funding to restore services that ensure that everyone who calls our National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline gets effective, lifesaving support. Lives depend on it.
