LSU and National Anthem

To: Gov. Landry

From: A verified voter in Baton Rouge, LA

April 16

I am writing to express my disagreement with the views you have recently shared regarding the national anthem and college athletics in Louisiana. While I understand the importance of patriotism and respect for our national symbols, I believe your recent actions and statements have missed the mark. This issue is not about the flag or patriotism; it is about your interference in the affairs of our state's colleges and universities, and your threats to remove scholarships from student-athletes who choose not to participate in the national anthem. As a resident of Baton Rouge, I am deeply concerned about the impact your actions could have on our local community and the young people who rely on these scholarships to pursue their educational and athletic dreams. College is a time for students to explore, grow, and develop their own beliefs and values. By threatening to strip scholarships from those who exercise their right to peaceful protest, you are undermining the very principles of free speech and individual liberty that our nation was founded upon. Moreover, your attempts to politicize this issue and use it as a platform for your own agenda are deeply troubling. As the governor of our state, you should be focused on addressing the real challenges facing Louisiana, such as improving our education system, creating jobs, and ensuring the well-being of all our citizens. I urge you to reconsider your position on this matter and to work towards a more inclusive and understanding approach that respects the rights and autonomy of our state's colleges and universities. I sincerely hope that you will listen to the concerns of your constituents and find a way to move forward that brings our community together, rather than divides it further. Thank you for your time and consideration.
