hike and camp—and that we return to again and again. But behind the breathtaking views, too many of these treasured places are quietly falling into disrepair.
Aging trails, unsafe bridges, deteriorating roads, dilapidated buildings, and worn-down campgrounds all point to the same problem: a growing maintenance crisis. Today, the National Park Service faces a maintenance backlog of more than $23 billion. And without action, it will only get worse.
That’s why Congress created the Legacy Restoration Fund (LRF), a dedicated program to fix what’s broken in our national parks and public lands. Since 2020, LRF has helped restore the critical infrastructure that keeps our national parks safe, accessible, and resilient.
But LRF expired last year—and Congress has yet to reauthorize it.
Congress needs to reauthorize LRF and repair our national parks.
