Good morning, I'm writing as a concerned citizen who is frankly appalled at the blatant weaponization of the redistricting process that we've seen in the last several months. Republican or Democrat, it should be clear to any reasonable person that this has been a blatant attempt by both parties to remove the power of the voters, and to ensure that they control the outcome of elections in their respective states as much as possible. Despite the egregiousness of these redistricting efforts, I am actually happy that they are happening, because they make it clear to anyone paying attention how fragile our redistricting system actually is, and how easily it can be co-opted by bad actors. What's the solution then? Stop the blue states? Not that's not fair. Stop the red states? Well that's just a double standard. The only solution is nationwide gerrymandering legislation which requires states to have nonpartisan or bipartisan redistricting boards, as is the practice in many states already, and a formalization of the already standard practice of redistricting only in census years. This is pretty uncontroversial to most people! These practices are already the standard practice, and they must be formalized into law, otherwise we run the risk of our election system devolving even further into partisan politics, rather than something that even remotely reflects the actual wants and needs of the people. Senators and congressman, please work for nationwide legalisation to stop this. Despite who is in power right now, this has set a whole new precedent on what's acceptable, and unless we nip it in the bud, well, it's going to bite the GOP in the butt once control of Congress switches. Thank you, and please work across the aisle towards common sense legalisation like this.
