An Open Letter to Congressional Republicans When is enough enough for Republican lawmakers? How many Americans have to die before they do something to stop the murders by the Trump regime? The Trump regime is at war with the American people. Even though they are targeting Democratic cities with their invasions and occupations, I say they are at war with all of the American people because, we do not know if a person who is attacked or murdered is Democrat or Republican. They could just as easily kill Republicans. They are equal opportunity killers. This policy is not about illegal immigration. This is not about safety or security. This is about power and the exercise of that power by a government against its own people. So, why aren’t congressional Republicans up in arms? The time has come for Republicans in Congress to decide. Do you support democracy and the rule of law, or do you continue to support an authoritarian regime that is murdering its own people? You either support the people and their rights or you part of this government who is moving quickly towards fascism. There is no longer any middle ground. Not taking a stand puts you on the side of the authoritarians. And the people will not forget your treachery. I, for one, will NEVER vote for another Republican the rest of my life if Republican lawmakers fail us and our democracy now. We, the American people must assume that, if you remain silent, you condone and support the actions of these authoritarians. And we will forever paint you with the same brush as Donald Trump, Stephen Miller, Kristie Noem and Greg Bovino. You have seen the same videos we have seen. There is ample evidence to believe that an independent investigation needs to take place and that Trump, Miller, Noem and Bovino are blatantly lying. Why do you still insist on supporting a government that makes you complicit? Trump, Miller, Noem and Bovino have the blood of American citizens on their hands. If you continue to hold their hands, that blood spreads to you. We are not asking you to change any of your policy beliefs. This is not about policy; it is about democracy. We, who believe in the Constitution, are asking whether you support a government “of the people, by the people and for the people” or do you support the same tyranny of founding fathers resisted and died for. We will no longer allow you to have it both ways. All we ask is that you support the American citizens, something you were elected to do, against the tyranny of this government. If you choose to cower in fear of Donald Trump and your fascist base, while Americans are being murdered in the streets of our cities, not by gangs or by drug dealers, but by our own government, your cowardice will not go unnoticed. Average Americans are demonstrating the courage to fight for our democracy while you sit, afraid to move or even speak out. If that’s who you are, you do not deserve the job you have. In these times, as Thomas Paine described, times “that try men’s souls”, we require courage from our leaders. If you can’t generate that courage, move aside and let someone have the job who can. You are in the way. Abraham Lincoln, a great man you claim as your own said, “Courage Is not the absence of fear. It is going forward with the face of fear.” The ghost of Lincoln demands your courage now. If you don’t show that courage now, you forever forfeit the right to call yourselves the legacy of Lincoln. “Come senators and congressmen please heed the call.
