Oppose OMB-2026-0034

To: Rep. Tiffany, Sen. Johnson, Sen. Baldwin

From: A verified voter in River Falls, WI

June 12

I am writing as your constituent to urge you to oppose OMB-2026-0034 and take action to prevent its implementation. This proposal would significantly change how federal grants and research funding are administered across agencies such as NIH, NSF, DOE, and NASA. By expanding political influence over funding decisions and weakening the role of independent expert review, the rule threatens the integrity, transparency, and effectiveness of federally funded research. For decades, the United States has led the world in medical research, scientific discovery, and technological innovation because funding decisions have been guided by merit, evidence, and peer review. Undermining those principles risks delaying medical breakthroughs, weakening our research institutions, discouraging scientific talent, and reducing America’s global competitiveness. I respectfully ask that you: • Publicly oppose OMB-2026-0034. • Support congressional oversight of the proposal and its impacts. • Protect independent peer review and scientific integrity in federal grant-making. • Ensure that research funding remains focused on expertise, evidence, and statutory purpose rather than political considerations. Federal research funding should serve the public interest through fair, transparent, and evidence-based processes. I urge you to defend the independence of America’s scientific and research enterprise by opposing this proposal. Thank you for your time and consideration. I would appreciate learning your position on OMB-2026-0034 and any actions you plan to take regarding this issue. Sincerely, Abby H. Van Stone
