I am glad that the SAVE voter suppression bill has been halted thanks to both Democrats and a few Republicans in the Senate, but beyond this what is the Democratic Party's plan to ensure secure midterm elections and maximize voter turnout? It seems like a legitimate risk that the Trump administration will attempt to use its foolish, inhumane war on Iran to claim extraordinary powers over the elections — from banning mail-in voting to imposing new obstacles to voter registration — justified on the grounds of national security. Here in California especially, I'd be more surprised if Trump DIDN'T try to use rumors of an attack on the state as a pretense for authoritarian intervention. Congressional Democrats must work with their state government counterparts to treat election integrity as a top priority, and should be publicly talking about it constantly.
