Protecting our nation's veterans must be a top priority. The reported plan to offer VA employees a "deferred resignation" with pay through September raises serious concerns. Senator Murray rightly points out there is currently no funding authorized for such a buyout program. This risks compromising essential VA services that millions of veterans rely on for healthcare, benefits, and support. Any federal workforce changes should proceed cautiously and transparently, ensuring core veteran services remain fully staffed and operational. Rushed restructuring could leave vacancies unfilled and overburden remaining personnel, jeopardizing quality care and timely claims processing. Veterans have earned access to the best our nation can provide through their honorable service and sacrifices. I urge thorough Congressional oversight to safeguard funding, staffing, and resources for veteran programs. Unvetted disruptions that undermine the VA's ability to fulfill its vital missions must be avoided. Our commitment to those who served should transcend political priorities of the moment. The men and women who answered the call to defend our nation deserve a VA system operating at full capacity on their behalf.
