uld like to let you know about an issue that many people are not discussing. Hello Senators and Representative, Thank you for representing me and my interests in Congress. While I recognize that politics can be a tough job, I wo sengers.org/happening-now/news/releases/rail-passengers-statement-on-proposed-amtrak-restructuring/ The recent proposal to breakup Amtrak into three holding companies might seem logical and competitive on the surface, but when diving deeper into it, it' s clear that this is an idea that is just plain shortsighted. See this article for more information on the issues surrounding this. https://www.railpas While I agree that finding ways to make rail travel in the US more competitive is a great thing, THIS IS NOT THE PLAN THAT DOES THAT. Amtrak will still o . wn tracks and land. Unlike what is done is Europe, where private operators own the tracks and the entire ecosystem of the rail network they operate on, t he only thing this proposal would do would be to allow middle men to enter the rail market, and they would only extract more money from regular consumers tremely difficult to see how a private rail operator could provide a more efficient service on a set, immovable rail line that has built in stations. Unlike air travel, rail is not particularly flexible, especially here in the US, and in a year where Amtrak ridership has reached historic highs, it's ex The closest private analogue in the US, the Brightline system, seems promising, but again, like Europe private operators, they base their model off of ow ning everything from the land to the track to the rail cars. The proposal to break up Amtrak does not do that. rastructure, improving reliability and service for hard working Americans. This proposal would allow foreign, European operators to enter the US market, and to act as a middle man on US taxpayer funded rail lines, extracting wea lth from working Americans and sending it overseas to Europe. In comparison, the profits Amtrak produces are reinvested in maintaining and upgrading inf Please reject this proposal, and please support common sense legislation that does not break up a company that is on a healthy upswing.
