Republican Rep. Jeff Van Drew (N.J.) has admitted what all of us republicans have been thinking this entire shutdown. “We need to deal with [health care] now because, number one, it’s the right thing to do, just morally,” Van Drew told Maria Bartiromo Friday on Fox Business’s “Wall Street.” “Number two, we’re going to get killed [in 2026].”
It appears Republicans are still unwilling to publicly acknowledge our miscalculation of the situation by immediately rejecting Sen. Schumer’s compromise offer to open the government in exchange for only a year long extension of ACA credit subsidies.
The government needs to be reopened immediately. People who are working without pay and furloughed through no fault of their own are now receiving eviction notices, this is in the media now and is easily confirmed. 30% of these workers are military veterans. Republicans digging in on the status quo is completely unacceptable. Get to the bargaining table and immediately hammer out a deal to reopen the government or Rep. Van Drew will be 100% correct.
This, or pass legislation to pay everyone in the military and federal service regardless of their current status. They have done nothing wrong and do not deserve to receive eviction notices due to Congress being unable to do your basic job functions. Get it done today.
