Support House Bill 2625 for public transportation funding

To: Sen. Williams, Rep. Mayes

From: A constituent in Pittsburgh, PA

April 11

Prioritizing increased funding for public transportation systems like SEPTA is crucial, as I and nearly all of my coworkers depend on it to commute daily. The proposed House Bill 2625 seeks to address the financial crisis faced by transit agencies by raising the percentage of Sales and Use Tax collections transferred to the Public Transportation Trust Fund from 4.4% to 6.15%. This would provide hundreds of millions in additional funding over the next two fiscal years, staving off devastating service cuts of up to 30%, potential line closures, and fare hikes that would severely disrupt commutes and access to economic opportunities for countless workers across the commonwealth. Ensuring reliable and accessible public transportation is not just a matter of convenience, it is a matter of equity, sustainability, and economic prosperity for all Pennsylvanians.
