Block all military action against Venezuela

To: Sen. Cruz, Rep. Van Duyne, Sen. Cornyn

From: A constituent in Dallas, TX

December 18

I am writing to urge you to use your congressional authority to block any unauthorized military actions against Venezuela. Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution grants Congress solely the power to declare war. This Republican administration’s proposed naval blockade is an act of war under international law. This Republican administration has provided no valid justification for this military action, has shown no evidence to Congress, and not requested authorization to use military force against Venezuela. This circumvention of constitutional checks and balances is unacceptable and sets a dangerous precedent. Venezuela produces zero fentanyl. Fentanyl is not a weapon of mass destruction. This proposed invasion if based on an untrue, fabricated pretext. American soldiers will die. Did we learn nothing from the Iraq war? Congress must reclaim its powers to explicitly prohibit this administration’s use of military force, including blockades, against Venezuela without congressional authorization. My wife and I urge you and your congressional colleagues to reclaim your war powers authority immediately, before this situation escalates further.
