Defend rule of law, stop Musk's reckless overreach

To: Sen. Marshall, Rep. Estes, Sen. Moran

From: A constituent in Wichita, KS

February 4, 2025

We must put a stop to the reckless actions of Elon Musk and his team, who are attempting an egregious overreach of power and a flagrant disregard for the rule of law. Musk's proposal to eliminate all federal regulations as a "default" position is extremely concerning and would have devastating consequences for the American people and our democratic institutions. Federal regulations play a crucial role in protecting public health, safety, and the environment, as well as safeguarding workers' rights and ensuring fair competition in the marketplace. Dismissing these vital protections would open the door to unchecked corporate exploitation, environmental degradation, and a complete erosion of hard-won social and economic progress. Furthermore, Musk's apparent takeover of key government agencies like USAID and his claims of shutting down congressionally approved programs and contracts are alarming breaches of the separation of powers enshrined in our Constitution. No individual, regardless of wealth or influence, should be able to unilaterally undermine and subvert the democratic processes that govern our nation. We must take immediate action to rein in Musk's overreach and hold him accountable for any illegal or unconstitutional actions. Our system of checks and balances, and the principles of transparency and accountability that underpin our democracy, are at stake. It is imperative that we defend the rule of law and ensure that no one, no matter how powerful, is above it.
