Major concerns!

To: Rep. Sessions, Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn

From: A constituent in Huntington, TX

December 1

I am writing today as a deeply concerned citizen who believes our nation is straying from the values we claim to uphold—transparency, rule of law, accountability, and basic human decency. I respectfully request your urgent attention to several issues that demand oversight and answers. 1. Why is the American flag not at half-staff for Sarah Beckstrom? Sarah Beckstrom died in the line of duty while honorably serving our country. It is profoundly troubling that the federal government has not lowered the flag in her memory. This tradition is not symbolic alone—it represents national respect for sacrifice. I ask Congress to look into why proper honors were not rendered and to ensure her service receives the recognition it deserves. 2. Reports of U.S. troops being instructed to “kill everyone” during maritime interdictions off Venezuela. There are alarming accounts that U.S. personnel were instructed to use deadly force indiscriminately during operations against small boats off the Venezuelan coast—despite the existence of clear, non-lethal alternatives such as disabling engines and detaining suspects for due process. Even more disturbing are reports that survivors—people clinging to debris after their vessel was destroyed—were killed. This is not only barbaric; it may constitute a war crime. Congress must investigate who gave these orders, why less-lethal options were ignored, and whether international law and U.S. military rules of engagement were violated. 3. The White House’s public listing of individual journalists as “biased.” Targeting individual members of the press is dangerous and undemocratic. Journalists should not be placed on government-issued lists simply for doing their jobs. Congress must reaffirm that freedom of the press is not conditional on the administration’s approval and that federal resources should never be used to intimidate or stigmatize reporters. 4. The pardon of former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández while the U.S. continues lethal anti-narcotics operations. I am also requesting clarification as to why the former president of Honduras—convicted and sentenced to 40 years for heinous narcotics crimes—was granted a presidential pardon. At the same time, the U.S. is aggressively attacking small boats near Venezuela on the grounds of alleged drug smuggling. How can we justify pardoning a major trafficker while killing suspected traffickers at sea without trial? The inconsistency is impossible to ignore, and the American people deserve an explanation. 5. Harmful tariffs and contradictory financial decisions affecting American farmers. President Trump’s tariffs on China are dealing a devastating blow to American farmers, particularly soybean producers. As China shifts to Argentina for its imports, U.S. farmers lose critical markets. Yet the administration now proposes a $40 billion bailout—not to American farmers, but to Argentina. Why are we strangling our own agricultural producers while financially supporting a direct competitor? This makes no economic sense and raises serious questions about priorities and loyalties. ⸻ Congress must act. These issues cut across national security, human rights, economic justice, and democratic principles. I am asking you to conduct hearings, demand transparency, and hold accountable those who have abused their authority or failed in their duty to the American people. Our democracy cannot function without checks and balances—Congress must not stand on the sidelines. Thank you for your service to our country and your attention to these urgent matters. I look forward to your response.
