I am writing to you because of my deep concern over the abhorrent abuse of Flock surveillance cameras by law enforcement in Denver. Police have used this system to wrongfully accuse people of crimes they did not commit, and harassed innocents with allegations that their evidence is 100% infallible, when in fact it comes from demonstrably unreliable computer-interpreted data. I am referring in specific to the case of Columbine Valley police accusing Chrisanna Elser of theft, based on Flock surveillance data that she then had to prove wrong. She was left rattled by the experience, and scrambled to gather her own evidence to prove her innocence. This entire situation is completely unacceptable. As a Coloradoan, I am appalled that this has happened in my home state. Citizens should not under any circumstances be subjected to this abuse. The way that police handled this situation was entirely avoidable, and the Flock surveillance system has proven itself an UNACCEPTABLE solution for any law enforcement purpose. I am fully opposed to the use of Flock surveillance cameras in Colorado. I am 100% against automated, computer-interpreted data being used against the people. Computers, algorithms, and artificial intelligence are NO substitute for humans. They are no more accurate than humans are, and we are already fallible. Please do everything in your power to get Flock systems OUT of our state, to ban their use, and to keep law enforcement from using any similar system in the future.
