I am writing as your constituent to urge you to support legislation enacting stronger oversight, accountability, and clear operational standards for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), as outlined in recent reform proposals. I believe it is essential that federal immigration enforcement be conducted in a manner consistent with constitutional protections, public transparency, and the rule of law. Specific reforms I strongly support include: • Requiring officers to obtain judicial warrants before entering private property and improving procedures to ensure U.S. citizens are not improperly detained. • Requiring officers to clearly display identification and prohibiting the use of masks that prevent public accountability. • Mandating the use of body cameras during public interactions, with appropriate safeguards and access to footage. • Prohibiting enforcement activities in sensitive locations such as schools, medical facilities, places of worship, and polling places. • Establishing clear use-of-force standards, expanded training requirements, and independent review following serious incidents. • Preventing racial profiling and ensuring enforcement actions are based on lawful criteria rather than race, language, or ethnicity. • Ensuring state and local authorities retain the ability to oversee and investigate incidents involving federal agents. • Requiring detention facilities to meet basic standards, including access to legal counsel and oversight. These reforms are designed to ensure federal enforcement agencies operate transparently, respect civil liberties, and maintain public trust while carrying out their lawful responsibilities. According to recent reporting, these proposals include requirements such as judicial warrants for property entry, body cameras, clear identification, and restrictions on enforcement in sensitive locations.
