An Open Letter
To: Sen. Padilla
From: A constituent in Carlsbad, CA
April 29, 2025
Dear Senator Padilla,
I am writing to you as a deeply concerned constituent from to express my unequivocal condemnation of the Trump administration's recent executive orders targeting sanctuary cities and deploying military forces in domestic law enforcement. These actions represent a profound violation of our constitutional principles and democratic values. The administration's decision to publish lists of localities that refuse to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement and to authorize the use of military personnel in civilian policing are unprecedented and deeply troubling.
The deployment of elite Border Patrol units, including BORTAC, to urban centers such as Los Angeles and San Francisco, and the proposed use of Guantánamo Bay for detaining immigrants, are stark manifestations of authoritarianism. These measures not only undermine the rule of law but also erode the trust between communities and law enforcement. The administration's actions have already led to the wrongful deportation of U.S. citizens and have placed immense strain on our judicial and immigration systems.
History will judge those who stand by in silence as our nation's foundational principles are dismantled. I implore you to take immediate and decisive action to oppose these unconstitutional measures. Your leadership is crucial in safeguarding our democracy, upholding the rights of all individuals, and ensuring that our government remains accountable to the people. The time to act is now—our nation's future depends on it.
