Prioritize public health: support pro-vaccination policies and campaigns
To: Sen. Cornyn, Rep. Self, Sen. Cruz
From: A constituent in Princeton, TX
May 1
The recent measles outbreaks across several states highlight the urgent need to improve vaccination rates and protect public health. With nearly 900 confirmed cases and active outbreaks in 10 states, this preventable disease poses a serious risk, especially to vulnerable populations like young children. As elected representatives, you have a responsibility to prioritize the health and safety of your constituents over misinformation or unfounded concerns about vaccines. The data clearly shows that the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine is safe and effective at preventing measles. Unvaccinated communities are allowing this highly contagious virus to spread unchecked. Two children have tragically died in the ongoing Texas outbreak after not receiving the MMR vaccine. Urgent action is needed to counter declining vaccination rates and prevent further loss of life. I urge you to support policies and public education campaigns that promote vaccination and combat the spread of misinformation about vaccine safety. Vaccine requirements with narrow medical exemptions have proven successful at raising immunization rates and establishing community protection through herd immunity. Prioritizing sound science over conspiracy theories will safeguard public health and prevent preventable disease outbreaks. The wellbeing of our communities depends on your leadership on this critical issue.
