Why Are You Representing a Party Instead of Your Constituents?
To: Sen. Schmitt, Sen. Hawley

I’m writing to ask why you seem more interested in defending authoritarian behavior and partisan power grabs than representing the people who elected you.
The continued support from Republican leadership for Donald Trump, despite his attacks on democratic institutions, inflammatory rhetoric, and endless corruption scandals, is deeply disturbing. Instead of standing up for the Constitution and the rule of law, too many elected officials appear willing to excuse anything as long as it benefits their party politically.
And now, with increasingly aggressive gerrymandering schemes and voter suppression tactics, the Republican Party looks less confident in its ideas and more desperate to cling to power by manipulating the system. It’s embarrassing, transparent, and harmful to public trust.
Your constituents deserve representation rooted in integrity, accountability, and courage, not blind loyalty to a political figure or party machine. If you truly believe in democracy, then act like it. Speak honestly, defend fair representation, and stop enabling behavior that undermines the country.
History will remember who stayed silent.
