I am writing to urge you to publicly demand the immediate resignation of Stephen Miller from his position as deputy chief of staff for policy in the Trump administration. Miller's extremist anti-immigrant policies and imperialist foreign policy positions pose a direct threat to our nation's values, international stability, and the civil liberties of constituents in our community.
Since the first Trump administration, Miller has been the architect of policies that have caused immeasurable harm to families and individuals. He designed the family separation policy that forcibly separated children from their parents at the border, canceled the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program that protected young people brought to this country as children, and orchestrated escalated ICE detention and deportation campaigns. He has actively advocated for eliminating due process rights for undocumented people and spread misinformation about immigrants and US citizens affected by ICE actions.
Miller's influence extends beyond immigration policy into dangerous foreign policy territory. He has led extrajudicial drone strikes on Venezuelan boats and called for military force to seize Greenland. These imperialist approaches erode international peace and stability while damaging America's standing in the global community.
The recent high-profile killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti have brought renewed attention to the consequences of Miller's influence within this administration. While Miller is neither an elected official nor an agency head, he wields extraordinary power over policy decisions that affect millions of people.
I am asking you to take a public stand against Miller's continued role in shaping policy. Please call for his immediate resignation and make clear that his extremist views do not represent the values of our district or our nation. Our constituents deserve leadership that upholds civil liberties, respects due process, and pursues diplomatic rather than militaristic solutions to international challenges.
