An Open Letter

To: Sen. Curtis, Rep. Kennedy, Sen. Lee

From: A constituent in Holladay, UT

December 10

All tourists to the United States would have to reveal their social media activity from the last five years, under new Trump administration plans. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), an agency under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), would also require any email addresses and telephone numbers visitors have used in the same period, and the names, addresses, birthdates and birthplaces of family members, including children. Is this appropriate behavior from a nation that has been considered the leader of the free world? Is our president so pitifully afraid of mockery or criticism that he will close our nation to tourists who disagree with him or his policies? Have we completely abandoned the principles of free speech without fear of governmental reprisal as enshrined in our Bill of Rights? I ask Congress to look without the filter of Trumpian worship over your eyes at what our nation is becoming and step in to halt the authoritarian spiral he is forcing us into. Do not let him do this. Do not let him violate the privacy of people visiting our country or tourism will disappear. Please stop the insanity.
