Protect NASA Funding in Continuing Resolution
To: Sen. Padilla, Sen. Schiff
From: A constituent in Pasadena, CA
September 22, 2025
I am writing to urge you to support the bipartisan effort led by Representatives Judy Chu (CA-28) and Don Bacon (NE-02) to protect NASA funding in the upcoming Continuing Resolution (CR). This critical initiative aims to maintain NASA's budget at no less than the currently-enacted levels, safeguarding our nation's space leadership and economic interests.
The potential cuts proposed in the FY26 President's Budget Request for NASA are deeply concerning. These reductions would impact nearly every congressional district and could severely disrupt project timelines, risk budget growth, and potentially cede American space leadership to adversaries like China. It is imperative that we prevent the White House Office of Management and Budget from prematurely implementing these dramatic cuts without Congressional consent.
I commend the House Appropriators for largely rejecting these cuts in their Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations bill. However, to ensure the Administration adheres to Congressional intent, it is crucial to include explicit language in the CR that protects NASA funding at no less than the FY 2024/2025 enacted levels.
NASA's contributions to our economy, national security, and global standing cannot be overstated. By supporting this bipartisan effort, you will help maintain the stability of ongoing projects, protect jobs in your district, and ensure America's continued leadership in space exploration and technology development.
I urge you to work with your colleagues on the House Appropriations Committee to include this protective language in the CR. This action will prevent the impoundment of funds and ensure that NASA can continue its vital work without interruption. Your support for this measure is essential in safeguarding our nation's space program and the countless benefits it brings to our economy and society.
