I Strongly Oppose the “Big Beautiful Bill”

To: Sen. Fischer, Sen. Ricketts

From: A constituent in Omaha, NE

June 10

I’m writing to urge you to oppose the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill.” While its name may be designed to sound impressive, the contents of the bill are devastating—for me personally, for many Nebraskans, and for the fiscal future of this country. First and foremost, the proposed cuts to Medicaid and the disruption of Affordable Care Act (ACA) funding are catastrophic. As someone who relies on ACA subsidies to afford the health care that keeps me alive, I am terrified of what would happen if this bill passes. Access to medical care is not a luxury. For many of us, it’s the difference between stability and medical crisis, between life and death. This bill would rip out the scaffolding that supports millions of low-income and working-class Americans, all while adding two trillion dollars to the federal deficit. It is not only cruel—it is fiscally absurd. It defies the very principles of responsible governance to enact sweeping cuts to life-sustaining programs while ballooning the national debt in the name of political theater. I expect better from my representatives. I urge you to oppose this bill, to vote no, and to stand up for Nebraskans who depend on Medicaid, the ACA, and a government that lives within its means without sacrificing its most vulnerable citizens. Please respond with your position on this bill and how you intend to vote
