I’m writing to urge you to oppose the Trump administration’s order allowing federal agencies to eliminate regulations without public notice or comment. This move strips the public of a critical voice in policymaking and undermines transparency. The notice-and-comment process isn’t red tape—it’s a safeguard that ensures laws are informed by experts, stakeholders, and the people they affect (Politico, April 2025).
Legal scholars across the spectrum agree this sets a dangerous precedent. Sidestepping public input opens the door to rushed, poorly designed policies driven by politics rather than public interest. Agencies could repeal protections on health, labor, the environment, or civil rights without scrutiny or accountability.
This is yet another abuse of power that weakens democratic institutions and consolidates control in the executive branch. I urge you to act now—conduct oversight, challenge this legally, and introduce legislation to protect the public’s role in government. Democracy demands participation, not silence.
