End ICE Operations in Maine

To: Gov. Mills, Rep. Beck, Sen. Carney

From: A constituent in South Portland, ME

January 22

I am a Maine resident writing to urge you to take all available legislative and administrative steps to end ICE operations in Maine.   ICE’s presence has led to documented civil rights violations, fear in immigrant communities, and the misuse of state and local resources for federal enforcement that does not make our communities safer. Maine should not participate in or enable detention, surveillance, or deportation practices that undermine due process and basic human rights.   I ask you to: - Prohibit state and local cooperation with ICE enforcement. - End any data-sharing, facility access, or contracts with ICE. - Publicly support legislation and policies that remove ICE from operating in Maine.   Maine can and should choose a different path—one grounded in safety, dignity, and the rule of law.
