Your Silence Is Putting Your Constituents and This Country at Risk

To: Sen. Hawley, Sen. Schmitt, Rep. Cleaver

From: A verified voter in Kansas City, MO

August 20

I am asking you a very simple question: Why aren’t you standing up to Russell Vought and this administration? Once again, we are seeing evidence of an administration operating with an alarming lack of transparency and accountability. A new Government Accountability Office report found that at least 206 people worked for DOGE within the Executive Office of the President, while numerous agencies refused to provide information necessary for GAO to determine whether DOGE personnel completed required ethics training and financial disclosure requirements. GAO could not even determine the appointment type for more than 150 of these individuals. This is not responsible government. It is not transparency. It is not accountability. Meanwhile, this administration continues to dismantle federal agencies, eliminate experienced employees, undermine the civil service, and create an atmosphere of fear and instability for the people who are supposed to keep our government functioning. More than 350,000 federal employees have been removed from the federal workforce during this period. And where are you? Why aren’t you standing up to Russell Vought and the people who are systematically weakening the federal government? Why aren’t you demanding answers when agencies refuse to cooperate with the Government Accountability Office? Why aren’t you defending the federal employees who are being treated as disposable despite dedicating their careers to serving the American people? Federal agencies are not disposable political toys. They provide Social Security, veterans’ services, disaster response, food and drug safety, tax administration, environmental protections, national security, and countless other services Americans depend on every day. Your job is not to blindly follow one man. Your job is to represent your constituents and protect the institutions that serve them. And I want to be very clear about something: one day you are going to have to stand before voters and ask them to reelect you. When that day comes, people are going to remember who stood up for them and who remained silent while this administration dismantled the government they depend on. You need to start showing your constituents that you care more about them, their families, their communities, and the future of this country than you do about protecting Donald Trump or following the wishes of his administration. I strongly urge you to stand up to Russell Vought, demand meaningful congressional oversight, defend federal employees, and hold this administration accountable for its actions. Because silence is a choice. And when it comes time for reelection, your constituents will remember the choices you made.
