Request for Accountability on Signal Group Chat and Blocked Oversight Votes

To: Rep. Fitzpatrick

From: A constituent in Morrisville, PA

April 30

As a constituent in Pennsylvania’s 1st District, I am writing to express serious concern regarding your recent conduct as a member of the House Intelligence Committee. During a public hearing, you chose not to question Tulsi Gabbard, John Ratcliffe, or any witness about the reported Signal group chat—a matter with direct implications for transparency and oversight within the Intelligence Committee. Instead, you asked a single question about the reauthorization of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, a law that was already updated last year. You then headlined your newsletter claiming you asked a “pressing question,” without mentioning the ongoing controversy surrounding Signal communications between committee members. That framing is misleading and does a disservice to those of us who expect full and honest updates from our elected officials. In addition, reporting from The Hill on 4/29 confirms that you joined other members of your party in blocking votes related to the Signal group chat and Elon Musk’s entanglement with federal operations. These votes were essential to transparency and accountability. Blocking them sends the opposite message. Your constituents deserve a clear explanation. I am requesting a public statement addressing your silence during the hearing and your vote to block further inquiry.
