An Open Letter
To: Sen. Moody, Sen. Scott, Rep. Wasserman Schultz
From: A verified voter in Davie, FL
April 7
I am writing to you with a sense of profound urgency and gravity following President Trump’s recent statements on Truth Social, specifically his claim that a “whole civilization will die tonight.” This rhetoric is not merely provocative; it is a clear indication of a leader who is either unwilling or unable to discharge the duties of the presidency in a manner consistent with the survival of global order and the safety of the American people. The President’s threats to target civilian infrastructure and eliminate an entire culture constitute an explicit intent to commit war crimes. As my representative, you have a sworn responsibility to protect our democracy and the constitutional guardrails that prevent the executive branch from descending into lawless authoritarianism. Therefore, I am calling on you to: • Publicly demand the invocation of Section 4 of the 25th Amendment. The President’s increasingly unhinged and incoherent communications regarding nuclear-capable conflicts suggest he is "unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office." It is time for the Cabinet and Vice President to prioritize the nation's security over political loyalty. • Initiate immediate oversight and impeachment inquiries. If the Cabinet fails to act, Congress must exercise its power to hold the President accountable for inciting mass violence and violating international law. • Reassert Congressional War Powers. We cannot allow the "nuclear codes" to remain in the hands of someone threatening the end of a civilization via social media. Congress must act to ensure no single individual can unilaterally launch a catastrophic strike. The silence of our elected officials in the face of such "evil and madness"—as even some of the President's former allies have described it—is an abdication of duty. History will judge this body by whether it stood for the rule of law or stood by while a civilization was threatened with extinction. I expect a prompt response detailing the specific actions you are taking to address this crisis of leadership and protect our democratic institutions.
