I am very concerned about the Medicare pre-authorization pilot projects, including Washington State. Is this a first step towards privatization of Medicare? I am on Kaiser and accustomed to pre-authorization but am worried about the use of AI as decision maker. What are the checks and balances in place to prevent this from being driven by only or primarily by financial considerations as opposed to what is medically necessary and effective?
