Keep America's Public Lands in Public Hands!

To: Sen. Moreno, Sen. Husted, Rep. Beatty

From: A verified voter in Columbus, OH

June 18

Our federal public lands belong to the American people, not to private developers, corporate monopolies, or state-level bureaucrats looking for a quick payout. I am writing to urge you to aggressively oppose any legislation or backdoor riders that authorize the sell-off, transfer, or privatization of America’s public lands, or any provisions that restrict public access to them. Privatizing these lands isn't just an environmental risk; it is a direct assault on our economy, our personal liberties, and our national heritage. Outdoor recreation is a massive, self-sustaining $1.3 trillion economic engine that fuels thousands of rural communities, supports local small businesses, and creates over 5 million American jobs. Forcing these lands into private hands strips everyday citizens of our traditional right to hunt, fish, hike, and camp, while permanently destroying the clean air, water, and outdoor spaces that communities rely on. Efforts to liquidate or transfer federal lands directly contradict the clear will of the American public and undermine decades of hard-won, bipartisan conservation progress. I expect you to represent your constituents—not special interests—by taking the following actions: 1. Defend Public Ownership: Absolute rejection of any legislative provision, budget rider, or administrative maneuver that facilitates the sale, gift, or transfer of federal public lands to private or state control. 2. Enforce Total Transparency: Ensure strict oversight, full public disclosure, and robust local input for any proposed changes to land management frameworks, blocking any attempts to bypass environmental reviews or public comment periods. 3. Guarantee Public Access: Oppose any measures that restrict, block, or commercialize traditional public access for hunting, fishing, and recreation, ensuring these spaces remain open to all everyday Americans, not just wealthy gatekeepers. Public lands are a core piece of our shared American inheritance. I urge you to stand up for institutional transparency, economic sanity, and our shared constitutional heritage by fighting to keep our public lands in public hands.
