Support the Homeschool Act

To: Rep. Costa Howard

From: A constituent in Glen Ellyn, IL

March 5

I have recently come across an article on ProPublica that discusses your sponsorship of the Homeschool Act. As an native Illinoian that considers themselves fortunate for living in a good school district, I applaud your efforts to streamline and modernize the way homeschooling is practiced in Illinois. Though I don’t have much personal experience, or a personal stake, with homeschooling, I have grown up with friends in different states that have grown up homeschooled. Looking back, we would consider their homeschooled upbringing to be mixed at best, as there wasn’t a lot done by state or local officials to ensure they were getting a quality education. Additionally, those friends of mine lived fairly sheltered lives with them not attending any public K-12 schooling. Having said all that, I believe that this bill would be a saving grace for many children living in our state that may be facing similar circumstances. Thank you for the work you do representing my values in Springfield. I want to be more proactive with engaging with local issues, and this is among my first steps :)
