Without public education, society dies.

Please tell me that you intend to defend the Department of Education when it comes up on the chopping block? It seems intuitive and obvious to me, but I will say it anyway. A society that doesn't value the education of every single child is a self-destructive society. Education is a right for every American regardless of social status or financial ability. If this isn't the vanguard of our national education policy, we deserve the destruction that we get. Education isn't just a boost to the ability for the citizenry to transcend class and caste. It is also the single cornerstone of the citizenry's ability to recognize and combat the forces that would destroy a society. Both of these are important. We cannot allow the anti-intellectual crowd to neutralize the next generation's ability to better themselves and those around them.
