Oppose the Trump administration's deal to import Russian diesel and enforce the law Congress passed in 2022 explicitly banning Russian energy imports.
Trump announced a deal with Putin to bring over 4 million tons of Russian diesel to market, and within minutes the Treasury Department issued a sanctions waiver through April 7, 2027. Congress never approved this. The law requires consultation and explanation, neither of which happened. A bipartisan group of six senators has already called on the administration to reverse course, and that pressure needs to grow.
Experts say this deal is unlikely to lower prices at the pump, but it will funnel revenue to the Kremlin that sanctions were designed to cut off. Hours after Trump declared an "energy ceasefire," Russia struck a power plant in Kharkiv. Zelenskyy said the ceasefire announcement was news to him. The U.S. should not be financing Putin's war while Russia continues to kill Ukrainian civilians. Hold the line on sanctions and stand with Ukraine.
