Request for Fiscal Accountability
To: Rep. Luttrell
From: A constituent in Katy, TX
October 14
Dear Senator,
I am writing as a Texas constituent concerned about the long-term financial sustainability of our country.
According to the U.S. Treasury, in fiscal year 2025, the federal government spent $970.4 billion on net interest payments, compared with $916.6 billion on national defense.
For the first time in this comparison, we are spending substantially more servicing accumulated debt than defending our nation.
This is not a partisan issue. Federal deficits have persisted under both Republican and Democratic administrations, despite decades of warnings from the Government Accountability Office about the unsustainability of our fiscal trajectory.
As a taxpayer, I find it increasingly difficult to reconcile repeated commitments to fiscal responsibility with the government's actual financial performance.
I would appreciate your direct response to three questions:
1. What specific legislation have you supported that is projected to produce sustained reductions in federal deficits and debt relative to GDP?
2. What measurable fiscal targets do you support for the next ten years, and how will progress be independently verified?
3. If those targets are not achieved, what accountability mechanisms should apply to Congress and the executive branch?
I am not looking for a general statement about reducing waste, growing the economy, or blaming the opposing party. I am interested in specific commitments supported by independent fiscal projections and measurable results.
The national debt is an obligation that future generations will inherit. I believe Texans deserve a clear explanation of how their elected representatives intend to address it.
I look forward to your substantive response.
Respectfully,
A Concerned Texas Constituent who are u going to send this?
