Improper access to personal information
To: Sen. Schiff, Sen. Padilla

As an identify theft victim, I’m dismayed to see in today’s Washington Post that the Trump administration is only now admitting what we feared a year ago: reckless DOGE staffers improperly accessed and shared sensitive personal information from the Social Security Administration databases.
When I was a consultant to the U.S. government from 2020-2024, I had to go through data security training before I could even log in to start my work. The layers of security on the IT system were strict - and appropriate, as my work required access to a small amount of sensitive information. The notion that people without any security clearance had access to Social Security data and exported it for any purpose infuriates me.
I know you are doing everything you can to thwart the lawlessness of the current administration. Please don’t overlook the individuals who facilitated their destructive and illegal actions and harmful policies. Everyone, from those at the top leading the actions to individuals at the bottom carrying those actions out must be held accountable.
