An Open Letter

To: Gov. DeWine, Rep. Miller, Sen. Romanchuk

From: A constituent in Lodi, OH

June 17

The recent proposal by Republican lawmakers in Ohio to completely ban abortion, IVF, and certain forms of contraception is an alarming overreach that would violate fundamental reproductive rights. This extreme measure would not only criminalize abortion in all cases, even for victims of rape or incest, but also outlaw IVF treatments that have allowed countless families to conceive children. Furthermore, classifying the termination of pregnancy as homicide shows a callous disregard for the complex situations many women face. This legislation undermines the will of Ohio voters, 57% of whom voted to enshrine abortion access in the state constitution in 2023. Personal accounts like Beth Long's poignant story illustrate how access to reproductive healthcare, including abortion when medically necessary, can be a matter of life or death. Stripping away these rights would endanger women and families across the state. I urge you to oppose this unconstitutional and inhumane proposal that seeks to override established legal precedents and the clear wishes of the majority of Ohioans. Reproductive freedom is a fundamental human right that must be protected, not legislated away based on ideological agendas. Women's ability to make deeply personal healthcare decisions about their own bodies and families should be respected and safeguarded, not criminalized. Please stand up for reproductive rights and personal liberty in our state.
