I am deeply concerned about the recent military actions taken by President Trump without a declaration of war. Congress’s constitutional authority to declare war has been bypassed, placing our military personnel, American citizens, and those in Iran at risk.
The United States deserves better than to be drawn into another protracted conflict in the Middle East, a region already burdened by instability and suffering. Past attempts at regime-change have resulted in devastating consequences – both human and financial – that we cannot afford to repeat.
Therefore, I urge you to take decisive action:
1. Block Funding: Actively oppose any supplemental funding package intended to support this conflict.
2. Speak Out: Clearly and publicly condemn these actions and advocate for an immediate cessation of hostilities.
3. Demand Congressional Oversight: Prioritize the swift advancement and support of War Powers Resolution to ensure Congress retains its rightful role in deciding when military force is authorized.
4. Demand Transparency: Insist on full disclosure and accountability from the administration regarding the justification, scope, and potential consequences of these actions.
I trust you will honor your constitutional responsibilities and work diligently to prevent further escalation and ensure that Congress remains at the center of decisions regarding military engagement.
Thank you,
