I’m writing in strong opposition to the proposal to spend millions in taxpayer dollars on child ID kits. These kits have no proven record of helping recover missing children. Investigations by ProPublica and The Texas Tribune show there is no evidence they work, and the company behind them relies on outdated, misleading statistics to promote their product.
Between 2021 and 2023, Texas spent nearly $6 million on these kits—money that could have gone to proven child safety initiatives. Reinvesting in a program with no measurable results is irresponsible and wasteful.
Our children deserve real protection, not feel-good measures with no evidence to back them. I urge you to oppose further funding for this program and demand accountability for how our resources are spent.
