An Open Letter
To: Gov. Newsom
From: A constituent in San Diego, CA
September 22
Dear Governor Newsom,
I am a California resident who cares about children. Thank you for signing Gabriel's Law, AB 2304, into law. I urge you continue protecting children in California and sign two more important child-protection bills that have passed the Legislature:
AB 1267 – Marriage: prohibition on minors. This ends child marriage in California by prohibiting anyone under 18 from being issued a marriage license or entering a domestic partnership.
SB 1364 – Child custody. This strengthens protections so that a person who committed sexual assault resulting in the conception of a child is generally barred from custody or visitation, with strong presumptions that such an award is detrimental to the child’s best interests.
Thank you.
