I’m writing as your constituent and a proud New Yorker deeply concerned about the ongoing erosion of protections for immigrant communities. With the legislative session ending soon, I’m urging you to take immediate action and support the following bills that reflect New York’s values of justice, equity, and basic human dignity:
• S1066 – Access to Services & Counsel for Immigrants: Stops immigration status from being used to deny services or deter people from seeking help, and ensures access to legal counsel.
• S6041 – Work Authorization for Asylum Seekers: Allows New York to issue work permits so asylum seekers can support themselves legally and contribute to our economy.
• S4538 – BUILD Act (Immigrant Legal Defense Expansion): Funds workforce development and expands legal services for individuals facing deportation.
• S316 – Prohibiting Immigration Detention Contracts: Ends state contracts with private detention facilities and mandates their closure within 90 days.
• S5954 – Protecting Crime Victims & Witnesses from Inquiry: Ensures law enforcement can’t undermine public safety by interrogating victims and witnesses about their immigration status.
• S1097 – Limit on Immigration Status Inquiry by Police: Prohibits police from asking about immigration status unless it’s directly relevant to the investigation or the person is being booked.
These bills matter. They’re about keeping families together, protecting human rights, and ensuring that fear isn’t used as a weapon against vulnerable people.
I urge you to vote YES on each of these bills and to do everything in your power to push them across the finish line this session. Please respond and let me know where you stand on these pieces of legislation. As your constituent, I believe transparency and accountability are non-negotiable — and I want to hear from you.
Thank you for your time and service.
