Block the $1.776 Billion DOJ Slush Fund — Use Every Tool Available

To: Sen. Kelly, Rep. Crane, Sen. Gallego

From: A constituent in Kearny, AZ

May 20

Back Rep. Fitzpatrick's letter to Acting Attorney General Blanche and go further — use every legislative tool at your disposal, including a veto-proof bill, to kill the DOJ's $1.776 billion settlement fund before a single dollar reaches Trump allies or Jan. 6 rioters. This is taxpayer money, and Congress controls the purse. Use that power. The fund's own terms reportedly include a provision shielding the government from liability if fraud occurs. That alone should disqualify it. Rewarding violent protesters with public funds while building in a fraud escape hatch is not justice — it's a giveaway. Fitzpatrick was right to call it out and right to say "we're gonna kill it." Now follow through. If legislation won't move fast enough, pursue litigation. No option should be off the table when public money is being funneled to political allies through a settlement that bypassed congressional approval entirely.
