Demand Congress Reclaim Its Power of the Purse from Trump and OMB

To: Sen. Schiff, Rep. McClintock, Sen. Padilla

From: A verified voter in El Dorado Hills, CA

October 5

Congress has already said no to taxpayer funding for Trump's White House ballroom project. That should have ended it. Instead, Trump and Russell Vought at OMB are finding ways to move money around without congressional authorization, raiding other agencies to fund this administration's pet projects while withholding funds from programs Congress has already appropriated. That is not a gray area. It is a direct assault on the separation of powers. The power of the purse belongs to Congress, not the executive branch. When a bipartisan group of senators stripped ballroom funding from a spending bill, that was a lawful stop order. Ignoring it by redirecting funds from national parks and other agencies is theft from the American people. I need you to take concrete action: enforce existing appropriations law, demand full transparency on where ballroom construction money is actually coming from, and hold Vought and OMB accountable for any unauthorized transfers. Congress's most fundamental function is at stake here.
