Keep the DOJ voting section focused on upholding voter's rights

To: Sen. Blunt Rochester, Sen. Coons, Rep. McBride

From: A constituent in Claymont, DE

May 7

The recent news that the U.S. Department of Justice voting section will switch its focus from compliance with voting rights laws to investigating voter fraud is very worrying. Removing the department’s ability to uphold voting rights laws is like attacking the fundamental right to vote for all Americans; it is a failure of its duty to protect voting rights and ensure free and fair elections. These actions will weaken the DOJ voting section's ability to enforce laws like the Voting Rights Act and the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act, threatening to prevent many eligible voters – including military members – from voting. It is voter suppression, through and through. I ask you to demand that the DOJ senior voting section managers be reinstated and continue to enforce voting protections. We must all speak out strongly against these anti-democratic moves and take decisive action to stop this administration's attempts to undermine the right to vote.
