Congress Must Stop Trump’s Vendetta—Or Expect to Be Indicted Next

To: Sen. Cornyn, Rep. Moran, Sen. Cruz

From: A constituent in Kilgore, TX

March 16

I am writing to ask a simple question: Do you approve of the Trump administration’s decision to freeze congressionally approved climate funds and criminally investigate organizations like Habitat for Humanity—without presenting any evidence of fraud? These funds were lawfully allocated under the Inflation Reduction Act’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund and were designated to support clean energy and environmental projects. Congress debated, voted on, and approved them. If there was fraud, was it in your vote? If not, then why is this administration treating it as such? The EPA, FBI, and Treasury Department have moved to freeze billions of dollars without a shred of public evidence, leading to lawsuits and judicial pushback. A federal judge has already questioned the legality of these actions, demanding proof of wrongdoing—which the administration has failed to provide. (AP News) This isn’t about fighting fraud—it’s about a personal vendetta against climate organizations and nonprofits that do not align with Trump’s political agenda. He is once again weaponizing the government to punish his perceived enemies. Congress cannot allow this abuse of power to go unchecked. Where does this end? If voting for these funds now makes lawmakers “complicit” in fraud, does that mean every member of Congress who supported them should expect an indictment? Should we anticipate mass arrests of elected officials for simply doing their jobs? This sets a dangerous precedent where the executive branch can criminalize any legislative action it disagrees with. Congress must act to defend its own authority. Will you: 1. Demand transparency—call for the administration to present real, verifiable evidence of fraud? 2. Hold hearings to determine if Trump’s actions are legally justified or just political retaliation? 3. Protect the integrity of congressional appropriations—if you voted for these funds in good faith, will you defend them? If Congress stands by and allows this to continue, then it is no longer a co-equal branch of government—it is a rubber stamp for a president’s personal vendettas. I urge you to publicly denounce these actions and take immediate steps to stop this blatant abuse of power. Where will Trump’s retaliation end, and will Congress be complicit in letting it happen?
