Repeal the Patriot Act. It has been over two decades since this law was rushed through Congress, and the mass surveillance apparatus it created has never been adequately justified by the security benefits it supposedly delivers. The bulk collection of Americans' phone records, emails, and financial data without meaningful judicial oversight is a fundamental violation of the Fourth Amendment.
Courts have agreed. In 2020, a federal appeals court found that the NSA's bulk phone surveillance program — authorized under the Patriot Act — was illegal. That ruling alone should have triggered a full repeal. Instead, key provisions keep getting quietly renewed. I want you to introduce or co-sponsor legislation to repeal the Patriot Act in full and replace it with nothing that recreates the same surveillance powers under a different name.
