I am writing to urge you to support Senator Ron Wyden's Produce Epstein Treasury Records Act and demand a full investigation into Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's role in blocking the release of critical financial records related to Jeffrey Epstein's criminal enterprise.
Senate Republicans recently blocked Senator Wyden's bill that would compel the Treasury Department to release Epstein-related bank records to Congressional investigators. These records document extensive criminal activity: Epstein made 4,725 wire transfers totaling more than $1 billion through his JPMorgan accounts in the decade after 2003, moved hundreds of millions more through Bank of New York Mellon and Deutsche Bank accounts, and used Russian correspondent bank accounts to process hundreds of millions in payments associated with trafficking in Russia and Eastern Europe. In total, more than $1.5 billion in suspicious transactions are documented in these records.
Secretary Bessent has repeatedly refused to turn over these records and has publicly downplayed their significance, falsely claiming Treasury has no investigative role in the Epstein matter. This is demonstrably false. The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network within Treasury is specifically designed for law enforcement purposes. Senator Wyden's investigators were allowed to review these records in person on February 14, 2024, confirming their existence and relevance.
A previously unknown DEA investigation into Epstein dating back to 2010 was recently revealed by CBS News. This investigation targeted Epstein and 14 others for drug trafficking and money laundering in New York and the Virgin Islands, detailed in a 69-page memorandum that ran at least until 2015. These bank records would help identify Epstein's enablers, co-conspirators, funding sources, connections to organized crime, and patterns of control over women and girls through financial means.
The American people deserve transparency about how major financial institutions enabled a sex trafficker and how government officials may be obstructing justice. I urge you to support the Produce Epstein Treasury Records Act and demand accountability from Secretary Bessent for his role in blocking this investigation.
