An Open Letter

As part of the CARE for Immigrant Families coalition, I'm urging the Governor to include $175 million for immigration legal services in the final FY27 budget. This funding has already been included in both one-house budgets, and we are asking the Governor to maintain the full amount and not reduce it during final negotiations. This funding is crucial to defend legal immigrants from the federal government's changing policies. Anything short of doubling the current funding for the Office for New Americans would be failing immigrant New Yorkers who are facing increasing threats. Access to legal representation can mean the difference between families staying together or being separated. I hope we can count on the Governor to include the full $175 million in the final budget. Thank you!
